Reality And Fantasy.
Thirty years ago, there was a popular TV series where the opening montage showed two men dressed in white - one of whom was a midget pointing to the sky, shouting "the plane; the plane." These two men were in charge of a tropical island resort which made visitors's dreams come true for a weekend - and at a price.
Although just a TV show designed primarily for entertainment, it nonetheless underscored the length at which people would go, just to fulfill something they wished for in real life.
Invisible or tangible?
The choice is ours to believe what we will.
There was once a woman who would always confess that she would win the lottery.
"At the end of this year, I will have a windfall", she'd say.
The years went by and there was no windfall.
Instead of a "windfall", she fell (pun intended), suffered a stroke; was semi-paralysed and finally died.
Confessing the "right" things doesn't always guarantee success, yet there are some who believe that by saying the same things over and over; month after month; year after year, that it would make their dreams a reality.
Vain babblings don't mean anything - and a fantasy will only remain a false hope.
But despite the fact that it is a false hope, some ignorant people still choose to believe it, because to them, "fantasy is better than the reality."
To escape the harsh realities of life, some people turn to alcohol and drugs.
And in the most extreme cases, suicide.
Some years ago, there was a newspaper report about a young girl who lived with her aunt in Singapore. One night whilst she was doing her homework, she put down her pen; said she didn't want to live anymore; then, jumped out the window of the high-rise apartment.
What drove this "barely a teenager" to commit suicide?
Was her aunt mean to her?
The pressures of school life, perhaps?
We will never know.
Religionists will be quick to point fingers at satan and Atheists will blame God.
But blaming God for the atrocious behavior of humankind only reflects a distorted view of things and a severe lack of understanding about planet earth and the universe.
Eight years ago, there was a multi-millionaire who had lost most of his money. When his account was down to one million, he killed himself.
He had told people that he had "no more money".
One Million!
Going from ten million to one million is like slowing down to 30 miles an hour after driving at 75. The drastic change in momentum causes the human spirit to feel at a standstill, just like everything being suspended and coming to a grinding halt.
To someone who earns a very low income, one million can achieve a lot. But to this millionaire, the reality of things just didn't sink in.
How atrocious, depressing and pathetic, indeed.
Winston Churchill once said: 'War is beyond all words horrible.'
Yes, words cannot describe what the human mind and spirit are capable of, although there is a saying that "the true measure of a person is what's in the heart."
And what is in the heart?
Fantasy?
or Reality?
Parents whose sons and daughters serve with the military believe that someday soon, their children would be "coming home from the war in Iraq."
This manner of thought somehow attempts to ease the mental stress and emotional pain / hurt for them.
Unfortunately, some would be coming home...
.. in a flag-draped coffin / casket.
Again, the harsh realities of war.
Choosing to live in a fantasy world would mean to live in a fictional world based on imagination, rather than fact.
Every individual will have their own imagination, suffrage and prerogative.
Personally, I have chosen to live life each day,
in the dimension called: REALITY.

By the way...
Speaking of reality and fantasy...
I just received one of those Damn Stupid fantasy E-mails, which was forwarded and forwarded and forwarded by those in The U.S.A. -
If you delete after reading ... you'll spend a year of ill luck!
But... if you send it to (at least) two friends ... you'll have 3 years of good luck!!! ***
Three years of good luck, huh?
How about four years and three months?
Only one word can describe such an E-mail threat:
" Bullshit. "
