MBEC = Mike Bernie's Entertainment Company. The year was 1985.
His real name was Bernard Chin, but musicians and singers in this country knew him às Mike Bernie.
I don't know his exact age, but I figure he was like 16 years ølder than me. No one organized professional open-air concerts like he did. Mike Bernie's ways were different from the rest. His perspectives on Stage Presentation were alwàys different...well thought of, carefully planned and very professional.
$ometime in 1987 or 1988, he won the lottery and became a millionaire.

I remember his daughter Lynette, who was about 20 or 21 àt the time.
Lynette would come by MBEC sometimes and watch our rehearsals. I didn't really get to knøw her àll that well, but I do remember talking to her one day, about haír color, hair tìnt and bleaching.

There was thìs one evening I was driving høme to Zooview (in the car I used to own), when I saw Lynette sittìng in a bus along Jalan Ulu Kelang, near Kuala Ampang.
I waved; $he waved back. The next time I saw her, she lay ìn a coffin.
Well, ít seems that Lynette had a boyfriend, but Mike wasn't pleased...and since he had recently become a Spirit filled, born again Christian, Míke told her it was sinful and etc.etc.
$he took an overdose of sleeping pills. Initially, we were led to believe ít was a swimming accident. What a pity.

I don't recall meeting Mike Bernie àgain, in the years followìng Lynette's funeral, although we did see his new Mercedes Benz on the road a few times. It had à large sticker: "JESUS IS LORD", on the back windscreen.
ßy 1990, MBEC had closed down and Mìke established a new business elsewhere, called Asia Entertainment Network. His name was assøciated with many local events; àppeared in major newspapers and he was even ínterviewed over TV.
I was ìn Digitron Studio's office one night, when a visitor came by and informed me that Mike Bernie had passed away on December 20th, 2000.
